Father’s Day is almost here.  I would like to share some of my thoughts on this very important day.

My father was so important in shaping me into the person I am today. He taught me about integrity, dependability and to always do your best.

Integrity. He made it a point of reminding all the time how integrity was so important in life and building relationships. I can remember one time an insurance company paid me two cents (yes, two pennies) more than they should have for a surgical procedure I performed. Because of my integrity that my father taught me, I sent the two cents back to the insurance company!

Dependability. My father taught me that if you told someone you would do something, you do it.  Actions are stronger than words. My OB/GYN patients always knew they could depend on me when I said I would do something. Dependability is what built strong relationships with my patients.

Doing Your Best. He instilled in me that if you are going to do something, do the best you can. Doing your best at everything can be a challenge. My father explained to me, and reminded me often, that I would always know if I did not do my best.

These are just a few examples of what my father taught me and why he was so important in my life. What are the life lessons that your father taught you? Take time this Father’s Day to let him know how he has shaped your life.

Whether you have or had a good relationship with your earthly Father, or unfortunately, did not for various reasons, please remember you have a heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. You can always depend on Him. He will never let you down and will hold your hand when you are lonely and pick you up when you fall. You don’t need a cell phone to call Him. He is always available through prayer!

My prayer this Father’s Day is that each one of you will share your gratitude with your father and to reach out and hold Jesus’ hand and never let go of it. Remember He made you.  He died on the cross so your sins could be forgiven. He made sure you would have a place to live forever—heaven!

Many things in this world can be taken away from you; your health, your wealth and maybe your family or a loved one. But as Job learned in the Bible, nobody can remove Jesus from your heart!

Have a happy and blessed Father’s Day.

Love, David
