She first entered the music industry as a gospel singer in 1956. Franklin’s father, a Baptist minister, helped her release her first album, Songs of Faith. She left the gospel circuit to pursue her career as a secular artist, but returned to gospel in 1972 with the best-selling gospel album of all time, Amazing Grace. Two little known facts: Franklin has the most million-selling singles of any female artist, and was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
