Public speaking is a big fear for many people. It’s been shown in some studies to be our greatest fear. Most people I know would rather do anything than get up in front of an audience to talk.

Even celebrities get nervous when they’re on stage to speak or sing. A few years ago Barbra Streisand agreed to perform again in Las Vegas – under one condition. Teleprompters, with the words to her songs, had to be there…just in case she needed them. WOW! That’s hard to believe.

I’m like other speakers when preparing to speak: Write the presentation. Learn it. Understand the audience demographics, visit the presentation location, etc. And – practice, practice, practice! Yet, what I find most helpful is prayer.

Prayer is a privilege. I pray for guidance and discernment before each speaking engagement. When I’m asked to speak at a church, I ask the pastor to pray for me before I begin. God gives me the words and confidence needed to do a great job! He always sees me through.

After my book, The Gift Is You, was published, churches and other groups, both large and small, starting asking me to talk about it. This became my new assignment from God. Even though I plan fully for a presentation – I get nervous. Every time!

However, I thoroughly enjoy speaking to an audience, especially when given the opportunity to talk about The Gift Is You. I’d be remiss if I told you otherwise. Those who have read my book know that God is glorified in this true story of encouragement and hope during life’s tough times.

I never expected to write or tell my story. But, God knew how to use my experience to touch people’s lives with it. The joy of speaking lifts me up and continues to fuel God’s purpose for my life. For that I am truly humbled and grateful.

Thank you,
