Another season of change is upon us. As summer turns to fall, brilliant autumn colors of red, orange, yellow, and gold unfold before our eyes. Cooler temperatures, more prevalent grey skies, and rainy days tend to slow us down a bit. Shorter days and longer nights may have an effect on us as well. These changes are inevitable and remind us of the beauty nature provides during this time of year. What a beautiful gift it is!
Yet this season reminds us that winter is not far away. If we are wise, we’ve geared up for cold days ahead. The furnace has been checked to ensure it’s in good working order. We put winter coats, gloves, and hats in an easy to access closet. And – we’ve “psyched-up” for the change! However, without physical, environmental, and emotional preparation, there could be a negative impact on our human condition and activities. We could be headed for real trouble in our outer life.
What about our inner life? The different seasons paint a perfect picture of nature’s changes and reminds us about the importance of preparation.
Are we prepared for the changing seasons of our life? Physically? Mentally? Emotionally? And most importantly, Spiritually – our inner life? What happens when we have high expectations and they don’t come to fruition? What happens when we are faced with an unexpected divorce, financial setback, a serious illness, unemployment, or a personal tragedy? The list of negative circumstances (and perhaps, high expectations) can be disastrous. At times like this, do we rely on money, power or fame to see us through? Or do we reach higher and dig deeper to the – One Power. A power that has potential to turn darkness into light, bad into good, sins into forgiveness. A power that can change anxiety, fear, doubt, and depression into hope, trust and – faith!
The One Power I’m talking about is God. He can change our doubts, disappointments, and sadness into the gift of hope. The key to this gift is trust. We must always turn to him when we experience seasons of change in our life. Do this through prayer, patience, and perseverance. Worship and praise him and your faith will grow – even in the worst of seasons.
Remember; I will never leave you or forsake you. Joshua 1:5
