Amazing Grace (John Newton) has ebbed and flowed in popularity. It is said to be performed as many as 10 million times a year and has appeared on popular music charts. Almost no one doesn’t know the first verse or two: “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me …”
During a conversation with an acquaintance, he mentioned that he did not like or relate to the song because he is “not a wretch”. We’re all wretches in the eyes of the Lord, aren’t we?
Isaiah 64:6 tells us that “ … all our righteous deeds are like a filthy rag …”
